Rik de Swart, PhD

Rik de Swart studied biology in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and received his PhD in 1995. Since then, he has been a research scientist at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam, in the department of Virology headed by Professor Albert Osterhaus. His studies focus on the pathogenesis of measles virus, respiratory syncytial virus and human metapneumovirus infections, with special emphasis on the interactions between virus and immune system and the identification of correlates of protection or immunopathology. In December 2010, he co-organized the Seventh International RSV Symposium in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is a co-author of over eighty scientific publications.
