Richard Webby, PhD
Richard Webby gained his PhD from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. He then joined the laboratory of Robert Webster at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, US as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where he was involved in some of the first studies to document the spread and diversification of the so called triple reassortant swine influenza viruses in the US. Dr. Webby is now an Associate Member within the Department of Infectious Diseases at St Jude where he continues to explore the ecology and pathogenicity of swine influenza viruses. He also Directs the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Lower Animal and Birds and is Principal investigator of a US NIAID/NIH Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance.
