Giovanni Cattoli, DVM, PhD

Dr. Giovanni Cattoli, DVM, PhD is currently Director of the Department of Research & Innovation – Biomedical Science Division of IZSVe (Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie), which includes the National and OIE Reference Laboratory for Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza, the FAO Reference Centre for Animal Influenza and the National and OIE Collaborating Centre for Diseases at the Human-Animal Interface. His main fields of activity concern the development and application of rapid and innovative diagnostic methods for infectious diseases of veterinary and zoonotic interest, including influenza, Newcastle disease and rabies, development of new vaccination strategy for avian influenza, research on pathogenesis and molecular epidemiology of animal and zoonotic pathogens. He is requested as an expert to participate in supporting and training missions at the international level as well as outbreak investigations on behalf of the OIE; FAO and EU Commission. He is directly involved in managing several experimental research programmes on pathogenesis of influenza viruses in different species of domestic birds and in the mouse model. He is author or coauthor of over 220 publications including peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, proceeding of conferences and abstracts.
